Yikes!
Here are Emmett's words describing the event (I'm glad he is around to write about it!):
Another time, I was riding my bike down Main street, cruising along behind Elder Dutton, when suddenly, out of a tiny cross street, a car pulls out in front of me and completely blocks the crosswalk. He had blown past the stop sign and was nearly into the traffic on Main. It left me about three feet to stop in. I couldn't swerve, because I would have run into a brick wall on one side or highway traffic on the other. I jammed on both brakes, my back wheel kicked up, I went sprawling over his hood, but shockingly I came away with nary a bruise or scrape. My bike never impacted with his car, you couldn't even tell that there had almost been an accident. Anyway, by this time Elder Dutton had blithely ridden away, completely unaware that his companion had just had a near death experience. Finally he looked back and saw I was missing, so he started backtracking. In the mean time I had collected myself and started riding to catch up. We met each other in front of a factory parking lot, saw we were both O.K., & were about to ride off. Just as Elder Dutton got his bike turned around, someone shouted at us from the parking lot. A man runs up and introduces himself as brother Bob Hall from Scranton Ward. He immediately gives us three referrals he had been saving to give to us Carbondale Elders. The timing was almost comically perfect, it was amazing.
The Lord works in mysterious ways, but gosh I wish they weren't so traumatic!
